Holiday dilemma
The MD of a large multinational planned three weeks off but worried that his direct reports would not perform effectively during his absence. One had an aggressive style that caused anxiety in her staff. Another gave too little direction and left the team to fend for themselves. The MD wanted to tell them his expectations of their behaviour.
Pole Star coaching helped him realise this would demotivate them. Instead, he propelled them towards the ultimate goal of the group, gave them responsibility, and left them in the highest frame of mind to perform while he was away.

Togetherness
The company goal was to cut costs using IT and economies of scale, rather than by losing people. The heads of each operating company were brought together to form a global IT executive board, brainstorm ideas and implement the solution. While they were able to buy into the idea at group level, they needed to sell it to their own companies with confidence.
As external coaches, we worked to enable them to bring their real challenges to the table, uncovering a lack of trust between team members and a fear that their own company would lose autonomy. We created an environment for them to build relationships and achieve cohesion much faster. We challenged their own issues and took away the personal/emotional elements so they could achieve success on a project basis.

A question of capability
A director with tremendous capability and intellect was self-conscious, undermined himself and didn't show his brilliance in front of peers, superiors and subordinates. Even so, the people around him knew his strengths, and he was promoted to a role where he was expected to pass on some of his skills. His lack of awareness was sabotaging his own progress, and the worry was making him tired and ill. His behaviour was zapping his energy and jeopardising his performance.
Pole Star worked on building his confidence to see what others saw in him. By connecting with a clear vision of his future career ambitions, he became more motivated, rebalanced his whole lifestyle, took up sport, and had the energy to play with his children at the weekend. He became fitter mentally, physically and spiritually.
